Mexico

With four mountain ranges, dry rainforests, deserts, and beaches along the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico, Mexico is a geographically diverse country. The country also contains 200,000 plant and animal species; its biodiversity is in the top 20 in the world.

Home to Pre-Columbian civilizations like the Mayans, Zapotecs, Aztecs, and Toltecs, many of the ruins can still be visited, and 62 indigenous languages are spoken in Mexico.

Matador has a range of articles on Mexico from those on living there as an expat, where to celebrate Dia de los Muertos, how to splurge in its coastal resort towns, tequila making, and saving sea turtles.

We have photo essays on Mexican chiles and street markets and video footage on Mexico’s best hangover food, surfing, and partying at Carnaval.
