Exploring Exotic French Sand

Journey through Mauritius

New Year’s 2003 and we were thousands of miles away on an island I have not heard about until only recently. Not even sure how it first came on the radar, especially given we had not been to Hawaii yet. Mauritius is beautiful, with world class accommodations and spectacular beaches. I am told the Seychelles have better beaches. At the time, however, I had just gotten back into international travel post Sept 11 and had been incredibly busy with work back in New York. I wanted to be spoiled. Subsequent to this trip, David and I went to Hawaii a few times and I would say that, dollar for dollar, I would choose Hawaii over Mauritius. A lot closer and just as if not more beautiful. That said, it was great to find this little country few people have heard of and even fewer have visited.

The below photos are some of our favorites. It is actually a bit sad to post them as I looked so much younger then![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_raw_html]

The privilege of being uncomfortable

It’s easy to remain ensconced in environments where our views are never challenged, and our way of life is never questioned. But growth, understanding, and inclusivity come from experiencing the unfamiliar, from recognizing and respecting the diversity of the world around us.

911 Memorial - Remembering 15 years later

The memories remain. And the triggers exist.

People ask whether I still think about September 11th. The memories remain. And the triggers exist. And so occasionally I will write about it. I will always think of those who lost their lives simply because they went to work. I will always be grateful to those who lost their lives actively running toward the danger. And I thank God for pulling me through and helping guide my path that day and every day.
